Doyle Driver Training
Terms and conditions for car rigid and artic tuition
These terms cover driving lessons, Essential Driver Training (EDT), pre-test tuition and agreed use of our vehicles for driving tests. Please read them before booking. Your booking confirmation sets out the service, duration, price and meeting arrangements. Your statutory consumer rights are preserved throughout.
Version dated 7 October 2026. Effective date: 08/10/2026.
Your contract is with Doyle Driver Training LTD, trading as Doyle Driver Training (DDT), referred to below as โweโ, โusโ or โourโ. Our instructors deliver training on behalf of DDT. Payment to an instructor whom we authorise to collect payment counts as payment to DDT; you will not be asked to pay twice because of an internal accounting error.
Company registration number: 733420 . Registered office: Bricketstown, Taghmon, Wexford . Email: info@ddt.ie. Office: 053 9103563. Mobile and WhatsApp: 087 0533202. Website: www.ddt.ie.
Before you commit to a booking, we will tell you the vehicle category, lesson duration, total price including applicable taxes and mandatory charges, meeting point and payment arrangements. A booking is confirmed when we accept it and confirm these details. We will make these terms available before agreement and send a copy with a distance booking confirmation in a form you can keep, such as email or an attached document.
Tell us promptly if your confirmation is incorrect. A requested change is only confirmed when we agree it. Any separately agreed variation must be recorded in writing and must preserve your statutory rights. The person receiving tuition must meet the eligibility and safety requirements even where someone else books or pays for them.
You must hold a valid learner permit or driving licence appropriate to the vehicle and activity, satisfy the applicable age and other eligibility requirements, and be legally entitled to drive in Ireland. Bring the original valid permit or licence to each lesson and driving test. Tell us immediately about expiry, suspension, disqualification, category restrictions or other changes affecting your entitlement.
Arrive fit to drive, wearing suitable footwear and using any required glasses or contact lenses. Do not attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when illness, fatigue or medication makes driving unsafe. Tell your instructor about relevant restrictions or support needs so that suitable arrangements can be discussed. Only information necessary for safe training should be provided; sending detailed medical records through WhatsApp is not required.
Follow reasonable safety instructions and treat staff respectfully. Abuse, threats or dangerous conduct may result in the session ending. If we cannot safely or lawfully provide tuition because you have not met these requirements, any charge will be assessed under section 6 rather than imposed automatically without regard to the circumstances.
We will provide tuition with reasonable care and skill through an instructor qualified and authorised for the relevant category. Training includes explanation, practical driving or vehicle checks, manoeuvres, feedback and a debrief. The booked time covers the full training session, rather than continuous driving alone. We will supply a roadworthy vehicle with appropriate tuition insurance and the equipment required for the training.
We will discuss your progress and preparation for a test. No number of lessons guarantees a pass, and no pass result or test appointment is guaranteed. EDT completion is recorded only for training actually completed to the applicable requirements; a cancellation charge never counts as completion of an EDT lesson.
We will make reasonable efforts to start on time. If our instructor is late, we will make up the lost time or agree a proportionate refund or credit. If you are late, contact us; the session may still finish at its original time where another booking follows. We will explain any charge for time lost because of your lateness and take account of circumstances and our actual loss.
Payment is due on the day of each lesson unless a different arrangement is confirmed before booking. We will confirm the accepted payment methods and provide a receipt or payment confirmation. Any agreed advance payment or deposit will be identified in the booking confirmation, together with how it is credited and refunded.
The price accepted for a confirmed booking will be honoured. Price changes apply to future bookings and will be disclosed before agreement. Prepaid packages retain the agreed content and price. RSA test fees, theory tests, learner permits, medical reports and other third-party charges are excluded unless expressly included in the confirmation.
We may pause further bookings while an undisputed payment remains outstanding, after notifying you and allowing a reasonable opportunity to resolve it. A genuine payment dispute will be considered through our complaints process.
Car lessons require at least 24 hoursโ notice. Rigid truck and articulated truck lessons require at least 48 hoursโ notice. Notice is measured backwards from the agreed start time, using Irish local time. Contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email using the details in section 1. A timestamped message received by our designated email or WhatsApp counts when received, even if we reply later; an unsuccessful call alone does not provide notice.
If you give the required notice, there is no lesson cancellation charge. We can agree a replacement date or refund the unused payment. Moving a lesson with less than the required notice is treated as a late cancellation of the original booking.
For a late cancellation or a missed lesson, we may charge up to 100% of the agreed lesson price to reflect the loss caused by reserving the instructor and vehicle. We will deduct costs saved and income from any replacement booking for that slot, so that we do not recover twice. We will explain the calculation on request. Any prepaid amount used towards the charge is recorded as a cancellation charge, not tuition delivered.
Contact us as soon as possible about a genuine emergency or sudden illness. We will consider the circumstances fairly and may waive or reduce the charge. This policy does not override statutory cancellation or refund rights, including those in section 10.
We may need to cancel or stop a session because of unsafe weather or road conditions, vehicle failure, instructor illness or another reason that prevents safe or lawful training. We will contact you as soon as reasonably possible. A suitable replacement instructor or vehicle may be offered. Any material change to your confirmed service requires your agreement.
If the cause is on our side, you can choose a suitable replacement session or a refund for the service not provided. If a session is interrupted, we will make up the unused time or refund the corresponding amount. If the cause is your unsafe conduct or failure to meet the agreed eligibility requirements, section 6 applies subject to the circumstances and consumer law. Nothing here removes any further remedy you may have for our breach of contract.
A lesson booking does not automatically reserve a vehicle for your test. Contact us before committing to arrangements that depend on our vehicle. We must separately confirm availability, category, transmission, test date and time, price, included preparation time and any cancellation conditions. Until then, no test vehicle booking is confirmed.
You are responsible for meeting the RSA requirements for your test, including the correct original documentation and applicable training or eligibility requirements. Check these with the RSA and bring your test appointment details. Discuss any licence restriction associated with the test vehicleโs transmission before booking.
We will assess whether we can safely provide our vehicle for your test and explain any concern as early as possible. Where practicable, we will agree a review of readiness before the booking becomes difficult to change. We may refuse vehicle use where it would be unsafe, unlawful or outside the insurance cover. Any retained payment must reflect services actually supplied or a fair, disclosed cancellation loss; refusal is not an automatic basis to keep the entire payment.
If the RSA cancels or changes a test, tell us promptly. We will explain which DDT services remain available and agree rescheduling where possible. Any charge must follow the separately agreed booking terms and reflect our loss, with deductions for costs saved or a replacement booking. We do not control RSA appointments or decisions. If our vehicle or instructor becomes unavailable, section 7 applies, together with any further statutory remedy.
You may stop a prepaid course and request a refund of the unused balance, less the agreed price attributable to lessons properly delivered and any fair cancellation charge under section 6. We will not retrospectively reprice completed lessons at a higher rate or impose a standard percentage administration deduction. This voluntary refund policy is additional to your statutory remedies.
Where we sell gift vouchers, the purchase date, value or service entitlement and expiry date will be supplied in writing. Vouchers are valid for at least five years from purchase. You can use multiple vouchers together and do not have to spend a voucher in one transaction. Where more than โฌ1 remains after partial use, we will refund that balance by cash, electronic transfer or a replacement voucher with the original expiry date.
A voucher for a monetary amount is credited at its face value against the price agreed when the service is booked. A voucher expressly sold for a stated lesson or package will be honoured for that entitlement. Identify the voucher when booking. A voucher does not guarantee a particular date. Keep its code secure and contact us about loss; we will check whether an unused voucher can be traced. We may investigate suspected fraudulent use.
Outside statutory cancellation and refund rights, a wholly unused gift voucher is not redeemable for cash unless we agree otherwise. This does not restrict the partial-balance rights above. A request to transfer a prepaid course will be considered reasonably; the new learner must meet the relevant requirements.
Where you book as a consumer through an organised distance booking system, including online, by telephone or through messages, you normally have 14 days from agreement of the service contract to cancel without giving a reason. Qualifying off-premises contracts also carry statutory cancellation rights; certain unsolicited home visits and sales excursions have a 30-day period. We will provide the applicable information before you agree. These rights take priority over our ordinary lesson cancellation charges.
To cancel, send a clear statement to info@ddt.ie or the correspondence address in section 1 within the applicable period. You may use the form at the end of this document, but it is optional. Keep proof of sending. We will refund amounts due without undue delay and within 14 days of being informed, using the same payment method unless you expressly agree another method without additional cost.
If you want tuition to begin during the statutory cancellation period, we will obtain your express request on a durable medium, such as email or a saved message, and ask you to acknowledge that the statutory cancellation right ends once the agreed service is fully performed. If you cancel before full performance after making that request and receiving the required information, you pay only the proportionate agreed price for the service actually supplied. Taking one lesson in a multi-lesson package does not by itself end the cancellation right for the whole package. Where the required information or express request is missing, you will not be charged for service supplied during that period where the law prohibits it.
If a service is not supplied as agreed or is not provided with reasonable care and skill, you retain the applicable rights to have the problem put right, receive a price reduction or terminate the contract and obtain a refund. These terms do not replace or limit those remedies.
Our tuition vehicles will carry appropriate motor insurance for authorised lessons and any agreed test use. Tell the instructor immediately about any collision or incident and follow reasonable instructions. These terms do not impose an automatic insurance excess, damage charge or indemnity on learners. Any proposed responsibility for a loss must be supported by the facts, applicable law and any lawful agreement disclosed before booking.
We remain responsible for loss for which we are legally liable, including our negligence. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. We are not responsible for a test failure merely because you trained with us, but this does not excuse deficient service or remove your legal remedies.
We use necessary contact, booking, payment and training information to administer and provide your service, keep required records and meet legal obligations. Necessary training information may be shared with the RSA and service providers acting under appropriate safeguards. Our separate privacy notice explains the legal bases, recipients, retention periods and your data protection rights.
Agreement to these terms is not consent to promotional messages, publication of your image or recording. Any marketing or recording must have its own lawful basis and appropriate information. If cameras or audio recording are used, we will explain the arrangements separately before the session. Contact info@ddt.ie about privacy or data rights.
Raise a concern with your instructor or contact Wayne Doyle at Wayne@ddt.ie. Explain the booking, what went wrong and the outcome you seek. Proposed service standard: we aim to acknowledge written complaints within two working days and give a substantive response within ten working days. If more time is needed, we will explain why and provide an update.
These terms are governed by Irish law. Nothing prevents you from using an available statutory complaint or court process or removes jurisdiction protections that apply to you as a consumer. Changes to these terms apply to future contracts; existing bookings will not be changed to your detriment without your agreement.
